Family escapes death by whiskers after steel ring falls of trailer and crushed their car...

The breath-taking incident happened at Magboro when a heavy metal ring fall off a trailer and crushed the car conveying eight members of an extended family.The head of the family identified simply as Baba Bilikisu, his wife, four children and the man’s parents were returning to Lagos after celebrating the Sallah, Eid-el- Kabir outside the state.

The accident occurred at Magboro bus stop in front of Western Metal Company Limited, close to the long bridge. A witness, who gave account of the accident, told our correspondent yesterday that but for the children in the Golf 2 car who requested to urinate, all the occupants of the vehicle would have died when the steel ring fell off the trailer...

Factory worker, Ahmed disclose reasons he raped his own daughter 6 times...

According to reports, 34-year-old factory worker, Mohammed Ahmed on Wednesday said he raped his own daughter six times.

Mohammed, who was paraded by officials of the Osun State Command of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said he started having sex with his 14-year-old daughter in April, 2015

The distraught primary five girl was not allowed to speak with PUNCH Metro.

Ahmed said, “I have two wives. The first had left and she gave birth to three children. The second wife gave birth to two children before she died.

“This one is the first child of my first wife. I don’t know what came over me in April when I started having sex with my daughter.   I had sex with her only six times since April 2015.”

The Head, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the NSCDC, Mr. Wale Folarin, said the command was alerted to the man’s act by one of his neighbours.

Folarin said, “The incident was reported to us by a neighbour, who said he used to hear the cry of the girl every night. The girl confessed that her father had been raping her.”

Jonathan, Diezani face probe over $6.9m campaign stages

                           

According to reports from the presidency, the ongoing probe of the immediate past administration by president Muhammadu Buhari is to beam its searchlight on the alleged purchase of three mobile stages, costing $6.9m by former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his two other officials.

From a document obtained from the Presidency on Saturday, the deal, which is now a subject of investigation, was allegedly carried out by Jonathan; his Chief Security Officer, Mr. Gordon Obuah; and former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.

The fund was said to have been withdrawn from one of the numerous accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The $6.9m (about N1.37bn) was said to have been withdrawn for the purpose of buying three pieces of 40-feet mobile stages for use by Jonathan during mass public speaking events...

DSS arrests a 14-year-old Boko Haram spy at Abuja Airport

According to reports, a plot by the Boko Haram sect to bomb the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, has been uncovered by the Departmentof state services.

The agency said it had foiled the plot, involving a spying network at the airport, by unmasking the brains behind the act.

Following the development, the service has stepped security at all airports across the country to frustrate other criminal plots and protect lives and property.

The DSS, in a statement on Saturday by an official, Tony Opuiyo, stated that it apprehended a 14-year-old boy from Kogi State, Sulaiymon Abdulrahman (a.k.a Sunday Ajayi), who was caught monitoring travellers’ movement, including passenger screening, boarding procedures and other processes in the departure and arrival halls....

'Obasanjo is a liar, economic illiterate' - Prof. Wole Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, on Friday night during a programme organized by Globacomm, tagged: 'An evening with Wole Soyinka', described former president Olusegun Obasanjo as an indescribable liar and said he has no respect for Obasanjo.

Asked to respond to Obasanjo’s assessment of him in the former president’s book titled ‘My Watch’, where he notes that Soyinka is good at hunting and wines but a political illiterate, Soyinka said that he was hardly bothered because he believed that Obasanjo was a liar.

Soyinka said, “Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion. But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of a liar?’

I can spend the whole night proving that he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’ that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated them....

Veteran comic actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly called Baba Suwe, who lost his wife six years ago, in a recent chat with Saturday Beats said, he currently has some women in marrage for marriage

Warri refinery shut down by NNPC over crude oil shortage....

The Group Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of the Nigerian Petroleum Corporation NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe has yesterday, 28th August disclosed that Warri refineries was shut down due to operational challenges as there was insufficient crude oil in the system.

According to him, “They are supposed to have at least a 25-day sufficiency in the supply of crude. So because of the depletion in the volume of crude they have had to temporarily shut down.

“It was shut down on Monday. This is a temporary measure and it should be up and running by Tuesday.”

The NNPC, had a few days ago, stated that after proper evaluation and in line with the terms of contract for the delivery of crude oil to the nation’s refineries in Warri, Port Harcourt and Kaduna, the Corporation has cancelled the current contract due to exorbitant cost and inappropriate process of engagement....

The soldiers who carried out a search operation at Sandia, Kokakowa and Nyaleri villages suspected to be Boko Haram enclaves early today, discovered and destroyed another Improvised Explosives Device (IED) making factory at Miyati and Nyaleri villages, along Maiduguri-Bulabulin-Damboa road, in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, Nigeria. 

In addition, three terrorists were arrested comprising an “Ameer”, a high contact and a foot soldier. Among items discovered apart of the IED making equipment, were a Peugeot pick up van, foodstuffs, 10-KVA Lister generator, gas cylinders, borehole, 9 bags of fertiliser, pumping machine, 3 bags of maize, 1 bag of millet and 13 empty AGO jerry cans, amongst others.

Former Minister FFK reacts to Buhari's ongoing political appointments

'Controversial' former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode FFK, has reacted to the appointments made so far by the present administration, president Muhammadu Buhari, as well as the occupants of key positions in the country

He stated that as majority of those occupying key positions in the country were from the northern part, Nigerians deserved the change they wanted.

Listing about 27 top positions on his Facebook page, he said: “Nigerians wanted ‘change’ and now we have got it. No-one should complain because this is what our people wanted. Those of us that warned the country that this would happen were insulted and lampooned. Now we have to live with the consequences of our choice. For the next four years. Welcome to the new Nigeria. Welcome to ‘change’.”

Nigerian quintuplets mum let off £145,000 NHS Bill, back in Nigeria long after delivery...

Pictured above is 37-year-old Bimbo Ayelabola who had  complex caesarean section at Homerton Hospital in Hackney, East London, after travelling to Britain when she was pregnant with her quintuplets. The operation and neo-natal care for the babies cost the Health Service in excess of £145,000, but she did not make any payment because according to her, she didn't receive any bill as regards to that which she also claimed she would've paid, if she had received one.

However, it has emerged the hospital will not hunt her down for the hospital bill...

Ooni spoke about marginalization of the Yoruba race before his death - Obasanjo

'Controversial' former president Olusegun Obasanjo, today, 28th August appealed to the KFormer president Olusegun Obasanjo Friday appealed to the kingmakers of Ile- Ife to follow strictly the laid down rules and procedures for the appointment and selection of the new Ooni following the demise of Oba Okunade Sijuwade.
He also asked the kingmakers to allow God’s wisdom to prevail on them to choose a rightful and God fearing person that would replace the late Ooni.
Chief Obasanjo made the appeal when he visited the kingmakers at the Ooni’s palace to commemorate with the chiefs and the people of Ife over the death of Oba Sijuwade.

Specifically, Chief Obasanjo asked the kingmakers to be careful about the choice of the person that would occupy the stool saying that late Sijuwade while occupying the stool has taken the seat of Ooni beyond Africa.

According to him, the position of Ife in Nigeria today can not be wished away adding that Ife symbolised the head of Yoruba race both in Nigeria and diaspora.

The former president recalled that late Oba Sijuwade ten days before his death in his palace told him about the marginalisation of the Yoruba race.

“I was here in this palace ten days before the demise of kabiyesi and he told me how the Yoruba race is margnalised in the scheme of things. He also told me to ensure that the Yoruba race got its own share of things in the country,” he said.

The Obalufe of Ife, Gabriel Omisakin who received Obasanjo on behalf of other chiefs assured the former president the choice of the new Ooni would not lead to any crises.

He promised that the kingmakers would ensure that diligent, due process for the selection of new Ooni would be carried out to ensure that whoever emerge is the choice of the people.

He appealed to Chief Obasanjo not to be too far from the community in view of his position not only in Yoruba race but all over the world.
